Introduction to the Move

Hello everyone!
This is the beginning of our odyssey of the GREAT MOVE from the house on Elgin Street.
We will try to keep this blog up-to-date as to let you know what's going on.
Today's first entry lets you see what has gone on so far.

In the beginning... we hired a Home Inspector: John Schiffer.
He works for Quality Home Inspections Ltd. http://www.qhi.ca/
He let us know that there were lots of little things that we would need to do to the home to bring it up to code. Our main issues throughout the house were to do with ventilation. This was no surprise to us but we really felt good about making a decision to move armed with empirical data.

The next thing to do was choose a realtor.
Mom and Louise interviewed three people and settled on Norm Flockhart. http://www.normflockhart.com/
He has lived in our neighbourhood and we really trust him to tell us what we needed to do to the house to get it ready for sale.

The next step, start to declutter and pack up anything we don't immediately need to have in the house. All those photo albums, the negatives, the many bookcases etc.
As we sorted through our mountains of stuff we had the "throw away" pile, the "donate" pile , the "sell at our Moving Sale" pile, the "keep in that room" pile and well you get the point!
Next...the Moving Sale!

Ah, it's the end of an age. So many good memories in that old house. Can't believe that you are actually going to leave it! But the time has come, eh? I will enjoy reading the progress...as a long distance friend who can't really help carry boxes, but has lots of support for you all! Good luck, friend, good luck. Much love you all.
